How Fast is the LaTrax Teton?
2nd Nov 2021
Someone once said that there’s no such thing as an easy question. That’s particularly true when trying to determine the top speed of some of the highest performing RC cars and trucks on the market.
Here at the RC Superstore, we’ve seen quite a few different models claim to be a great beginner option that can grow with the user. Since the LaTrax Teton is part of the LaTrax ready-to-run (RTR) line, some people might not expect it to go all that fast. However, this model is a serious step up from more basic vehicles, no matter what you might have heard.
Figuring Out the Top Speed of the LaTrax Teton
Chances are that those who want nothing more than raw speed are looking for something like the Traxxas Slash line, which are known for their really beefy top speeds. That being said, the LaTrax Teton is going to put up some impressive numbers when judged against pretty much anything else in its class.
Since they don’t want to be proven wrong by people who put RC cars through their paces, most of the major manufacturers in the space don’t actually publish speed figures. Additionally, test conditions can differ between RC hobbyists, making it difficult to nail down an exact number.
Underlying track conditions have a lot to do with the top speed as well. From our experience, the average top speed for the LaTrax Teton is over 20 MPH.
Features of the LaTrax Teton
When you combine this manageable speed with the other features of the Teton, it’s easy to see why it’s a go-to choice for many newcomers. It’s easy to control and durable throughout a range of weather conditions.
Waterproof Electronic Speed Control
However, what’s known for sure is that the Teton 1/18 scale truck features an all-weather electronic speed control system that’s designed to be driven through rain and snow. This means that it’s not only fast, but it’s also able to dial back the top speed and take corners well.
The 3 Driving Profiles of the LaTrax Teton
Perhaps most importantly, the fully-proportional control system offers three different model driving profiles. This lets users learn at their own pace, then choose the best profile for the intended purpose once they’re ready to race and bash.
Training Mode
In Training Mode, you can accelerate forward at 50% speed, reverse at 50% speed, and brake. This mode is great for newcomers, and younger drivers, who don’t want to risk tumbling as they learn to control the RC.
Dedicated Race Mode
The Dedicated Race Mode only offers forward acceleration and braking. You can expect to go quite fast in this mode, but only in a forward direction so you won’t have to worry about getting turned around.
Sport Mode
Sport Mode offers forward, brake, and reverse – all functionality that you might expect. Reverse is never going to go quite as fast as forward is, but then again it isn’t really designed to.
Independent 4-Wheel Suspension
The inclusion of a four-wheel suspension that’s truly independent can help it navigate many situations that would trip up most other types of RC vehicles. On top of this, it’s got a set of shock absorbers that are filled with oil, so they can outperform most of the similar competition on loose earth. Glued tires are generally going to net higher top speeds in this respect.
